Key Stage 3
All students in Years 7 and 8 experience two lessons of Performing Arts per week. They will rotate between Dance, Drama and Music, studying one of these specialities every half term. Lessons are based around practical work and at the end of each rotation, students will be assessed through performance work. In Year 9, pupils are given the opportunity to follow a more focused selection from within the Performing Arts suite of subjects, studying two of the three for the entire year. Pupils will receive one lesson per week in their choices from Dance, Drama and Music, with the content of the lessons covering preparatory work developing GCSE level skills in each area. Key Stage 4 The department follows the Edexcel GCSE Drama course at Key Stage 4. Work in Year 10 aims to develop the necessary performance and academic skills required for the final examinations. The course is divided into three components, with a requirement for all pupils to be effective both as performers and in written tasks. Component One requires pupils to create their own unique play as a part of a group, which is supported by an assessed portfolio of evidence. Component Two requires pupils to perform extracts from plays to a visiting examiner and Component Three takes the form of a written examination in which pupils tackle questions on a professional performance they have seen and the play text studied over the course 'The Government Inspector'. Key Stage 5 At Key Stage 5 students are provided with the opportunity to study A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies. The qualification consists of a number of components aimed at developing both the practical and academic skills of the individual. |
